Report on CALM Workshop with Stakeholders on "Objectives for Health Effects from Noise"

Introduction and Objective of the Workshop

The aim of the CALM network is to establish the "Community Noise Research Strategy Plan". This plan shall identify strategies for future research that will be designed to promote EU wide reduction of environmental noise. Therefore, the network has to identify the strategic research needs in the fields of noise emission (with special focus on noise caused by road traffic, railway transport, aircraft and outdoor machinery), noise propagation, noise exposure and the adverse effects of noise, particularly in urban areas. The development of such an strategic research plan requires, of course, the close involvement of all stakeholders which is realised by special workshops within CALM.

Therefore, this workshop has been organised in close co-operation with representatives of the EC noise working group "Health and Socio-Economic Aspects" and had the following two objectives:
